AFTERCARE

BODY PIERCING AFTERCARE
Cleaning Instructions

Always wash your hands before cleaning!
Once in the morning and night is preferable.

Saline

Soak a clean cotton bud or gauze with your chosen saline, dab any crusts so they absorb the water and fully soften. Then you can gently remove the soft crusts with a cotton bud/gauze. If showering/
bathing daily, then only an additional once, otherwise twice.

Clean

In the shower/bath after washing hair etc. Making sure the crusts have been softened by the warm water beforehand, lather a small amount of your chosen fragrance free soap in your fingers and clean gently front, back and around your fresh piercing.

Rinse

Thoroughly to remove all traces of soap from around the piercing.

Dry

You can use a hair dryer on a low setting to dry the piercing without needing to touch it. Otherwise, you can use something disposable (cotton bud or kitchen towel). Drying prevents bacteria growth.

Inside Mouth

Rinse with mouthwash for 30 seconds morning and night, and use the bottled water mouth rinse after food, drinks and smoking for the duration of the healing period.

5 top recommendations for healing your new piercing

Dirty Hands – Never touch your fresh/healing piercing with unwashed hands!

Minimal Jewellery Movement - Fresh piercings need to be left alone as much as possible, so no twisting, turning, knocking, touching or fiddling with the jewellery. Move the jewellery as little as possible when cleaning.

Removing jewellery – Leave jewellery in at all times, piercings can heal over quickly making reinsertion difficult. In the event an infection is suspected, please see your piercer or GP and follow instructions given.

Pressure - Do not sleep/lay on your healing piercing. (A flight cushion is handy to prevent this) Do not restrict your piercing with any tight clothing. Pressure can make piercings very sore and may cause ‘granulomus’ lumps to appear.

Downsize – It is important that you return to the studio when advised, to downsize the jewellery you where pierced with. Swelling jewellery left in too long can cause issues.
